Bookflicks is a reading culture platform for primary schools. It turns the books already on your classroom shelves into a Netflix-style library that children browse, borrow from and review themselves.
Why Bookflicks exists
Bookflicks began in one primary school during the COVID closures. Reading engagement was the thing at risk. Children who could not walk up to the book corner and pick something off the shelf stopped choosing books at all, and a reading culture that takes a school years to build started thinning out within weeks.
The first version was a rough build, made so one school's children could still see what was on their class shelves and still want to read it. It kept working after classrooms reopened, because the problem was never really about closure. A book corner children walk past is a book corner nobody is using. Bookflicks is that first idea rebuilt properly: the books already in your classroom, presented the way children actually choose things.
Who is behind it
Bookflicks was initially developed by Grant Wardle back in 2019. The platform has largely evolved since then and has welcomed many more schools who are looking to improve reading culture in their classes.

Frequently asked questions
For teachers
- Do children need their own accounts?
- No. Children sign in to their class with a class code, PIN or QR poster. Bookflicks stores no child email addresses and no child passwords.
- Do I have to add all the books myself?
- No. Every class comes pre-loaded with recommended books for its year group, from Year 1 to Year 6. You can add your own titles by ISBN lookup or bulk upload.
- Does Bookflicks replace our physical class library?
- No. The books stay on your shelves. Bookflicks handles the browsing, the borrowing record and the reviews, so children can choose and check out books themselves.
- How long does it take to set up?
- Less than 60 seconds to get your first class going. Add your school, create a class for each year group, and share the link. Every class arrives pre-loaded with recommended books for its year group, so there is nothing to type in before children can start browsing.
- What if a child does not bring a book back?
- The book never leaves your classroom, so nothing is lost. Bookflicks keeps the borrowing record: you can see who has what on the live checkout board, overdue books are flagged automatically, and you can return several at once when the shelf gets tidied.

- What devices does it work on?
- Bookflicks runs in a web browser, so it works on anything that connects to the internet. It is built first for the devices primary classrooms actually use: iPads and tablets for children, and a laptop or phone for the teacher side. There is no app to install.
- Can we roll it out across a whole school?
- Yes. Each school has its own profile, with a separate class inside it for every year group, so a whole school can run on Bookflicks from Reception to Year 6.
- What reporting do teachers and leaders get?
- Reading trends for an individual child, for a class and across a whole school, plus class participation at a glance. It all sits in the Reports page in your teacher dashboard. More reporting is being added.
For families
- How do I log my child's reading at home?
- Parents join with a secure link and a PIN, then log each read from their phone. There is no app to install and no paper diary to lose.
- Can other parents see my child's reading diary?
- No. No family sees another child's diary.
